Lingering Laneways started as a group project addressing the need for integrated densification and activation of medium density residential master planning. Focusing on civic and commercial infrastructure, our group design aims to create a space of social interaction that gives people a reason to stay within the residential block. To facilitate user group integration (between families, students, young couple, and the elderly), we designed 1 bedroom or 2 bedroom residences that can be used by anyone. The spatial experience of the space connects each block creating cohesiveness, manifested most strongly through the inserted laneway between plots 2 and 4,  and the commercial and civic plot of 12.

As a continuation of the master plan, we each individually choose 2 plots to develop further. I chose 12 and 6-10.

I wanted to extend the idea of lingering laneways by rotating the facade of the residences on 6-10 to face plot 12, creating another laneway. By inserting laneways in the block, new, more intimate ways of maneuvering and circulating are inserted within the rigid residential framework, creating microclimates for the interaction and integration of the different user groups within the space.

Plot 12 is opened up and responds to the context of both Elgin street and the residential park on Macarthur Place North, creating a space of civic, social, and commercial interaction. While the residences on 6-10 do interact with plot 12 they have have their own semi public, and private areas focused around the central void, staircase, and porch like balconies.
